When you can find me a non-fat cow or pig, please let me know.

- Complain about the prices on the menu to the cashier when the 8 oz. beer in your hand costs more than anything on the menu.

- Verbally attack the cashier when an item on the menu runs out (because there were a million people in front of you in line who wanted just what you wanted) as if it was his or her fault that he or she can’t make raw meat cook in seconds.

- Ask to have your sandwich cut in half and then proceed to argue with the cashier that the reason he or she CANNOT CUT YOUR SANDWICH--“for health department reasons, we cannot cut your sandwich, but we have knives over in the pull out draws for you to use”-- is rubbish.

- Ask where the barbeque sauce is when it is right in front of you, clearly labeled. Especially after the cashier told you where it is, pointed at it, and described the “big black container” to you while you received your change.

- After failing to listen to the cashier’s condiment and barbecue sauce speech, proceed to put hot sauce on your sandwich and then expect the vendor to give you a new sandwich because you are an idiot and can’t read sauce labels.

- Get to the front of the line and not know what you want.

- Change your mind halfway through your order after your food has been called back to be made and it has already been punched into the register, causing the cashier to have to start all over and the receipts for the boss to be off, making him more cranky than usual.

- Ask for an extra plate. Your food came on a plate; it is not just floating around. Why do you need another? They won’t give you one. Don’t ask.

- Order a lot of food and then expect the cashiers to be responsible for how you will carry all your food.

- Complain your onion rings are cold. A) It is over a hundred degrees outside. B) The onion rings just came out of the fryer. C) Now you have to wait for 2:50 minutes for new ones that you will burn your mouth on.

- Bring up the competitor BBQ stand. No one really cares. Do you honestly believe working for a food vendor for three weeks of the summer is a life long goal for the employees? It is not like they can control the differences and similarities between the two stands. They just are there to take your money and give you food.

- Participate in the talent contest at the neighboring stage and sing Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, or Carrie Underwood, when every other person for the past three days have already decided to do just that.

- Ask where the napkins are when your elbow practically knocked the container off the counter in your effort to make your inquiry heard. The cashier feels pretty stupid telling you they are right in front of you, and you just look plain stupid.

- Be particular about the quantity of ice in your soda. Light ice, no ice, lots of ice, not too much ice…a little more… little less, hold the ice.

- Ask to substitute the side on the combo meals. Even if the workers wanted to replace the potentially more healthy option for the fatty grease filled request, they can’t. The menu is contracted with the fair; it cannot be changed or altered. You can still get your fried curly fries as a side; they just won’t be part of a ‘combo.’

- Order food minutes before the park closes causing the overworked tired employees to re-wash and re-clean.

- Order, pay, and walk away. Your food is not going to grow legs and find you.

- Order, pay, forget what you ordered, and lose your receipt in the thirty seconds it took for your food to come out. in her Easter basket (yes, at 19 and 20 we still get Easter baskets). Having gotten the first two seasons of the far superior "Seinfeld" in my own Easter basket, I wasn't too interested. Meg watches about 6 other procedural crime shows, so I can't say her tastes are too discerning. But then she started playing "Psych" episodes. When I was in the house. And could hear them. I became intrigued...

"Psych," which airs on USA, is basically about two friends who have a psychic business... but neither of them is actually psychic. One of them is just super observant, and is just using the psychic cover to gain credibility as a detective (It makes perfect sense, I know). The other one seems logistically useless, but he drives a blue Echo, so he certainly brings something to the table. From what I gather so far, they go "undercover" by using silly names, look around at stuff to solve the case, and then make a big scene about psychic "visions," exposing the generic bad guy. They also always seem to be desperate to cut in on police cases because the police can apparently pay them more money than they can make privately. And if they do take a private case, it always, always, ALWAYS becomes related to whatever the po-po are currently investigating.

The mystery part of the show is ridiculous. I learned quickly that it follows the Scooby-Doo formula: if a subsidiary character has a line early in the episode, he or she is probably the murderer/almost murderer/thief/etc. The cops are stupid, and the villains are even stupider. But the show's genius lies in its ability to cram a huge number of pop culture references into the witty banter of its primary characters, Shawn and Gus (played by James Roday and Dule Hill), between conversation about the actual case. It makes me giggle, and I especially love that I don't have to actually sit down and watch it to enjoy it. As I follow about 8 shows with additional DVD viewing, I'm big on multi-tasking.

Although I wish they'd make it even more zany, "Arrested Development"-style, I'm still pretty stoked about a show that can make clever and seamless quips about Keyser Soze, the guy from the Pollo Loco commercials, and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret without breaking a sweat. And if you don't know who Keyser Soze is, go rent "The Usual Suspects." Right now.

Birthday Blast.

Some of my favorite things include: food, bowling, and being silly. But this season, with the return of old boss Bill Buchanan, the formerly-dead Tony Almeida, and my personal favorite, the still awesomely awkward hack-master Chloe O'Brian, I have been pretty rivited.

My favorite part of this season is probably one of its new characters: FBI agent Renee Walker. I knew I was going to like her from the moment she gave Jack the go-ahead to do whatever he needed to do to get whatever information they needed from whatever forgettable subsidiary bad guy they had in the first episode. Then when Jack and Walker went after Tony together, they proved to be a great team. Finally, Jack has a female sidekick who isn't a traitor (Nina), a bit socially retarded (Chloe), or compelled to constantly speak in a half-whisper while making brooding faces (Tony, who still seems to be bitter he lost out on that Batman role to Christian Bale... and yes, I just called him a girl).

Sure, she works for a real government agency rather than an imaginary one, and she may betray more emotion than mere urgency, showing us a few weeks ago that she really "feels pain," but other than that, Agent Walker has a lot in common with Jack. She goes after the bad guys alone when her boss tells her not to. She's narrowly escaped death time and time again--even after being shot in the neck and burried alive. She even shed her her suit for an edgier jeans-and-jacket ensemble. And most importantly, she doesn't seem to mind a little light torture. She does what she has to do to get the job done.

I'm hoping for a little Walker-Bauer romance before the day is out, because whatever relationship they've been hinting at between Rene and her FBI boss seems super boring, and the FBI boss seems super shady. But even if they don't go that way, I'm stoked she's a part of the show. I hope they let her survive the season.

my (megan's) picks.

I am not near as educated nor do I care as much about what makes a good movie; She was on chocolate duty.

And she put me to work hammering peppermint candies.

We made a delicious mess.

Aly told me I could not fully appreciate the joy of the holidays without a trip to DisneyLand. Having never experienced decorated Disney at Christmastime, I became a little kid in a candy shop, wide eyes of amaziment. (Yeah, I know. I am pretty cool.)

We watched Sleeping Beauty's castle light up as the park "snowed." Lots of lights. LOTS of lights. It was amazing. Once again. Little Kid--> Me.

Tell me you are not amazed. I dare you. Tell me.

We ended our evening at California.

"Hey, Megan. We also took pictures by the "A" for the Amazingness that we are, and the "C" for Crazy Cool Christmas Fun. ("Too bad "fun" doesn't start with "C").

Since most of the roommates are surfing, broomsticking, horse drawn carriaging, or pogo sticking our ways home soon, we celebrated Christmas tonight.

Christmas at 2236 would not be complete without silly gifts, stockings, personalized cds, funny pictures (maybe you can see them some other time), twilight references, and a 90's dance party. Yep. You heard right. What better way to celebrate the season of giving than with boy bands as the background soundtrack in your life?

I received some pretty sweet Star Wars trading cards. (I know you all are probably jealous, but I'm sorry, I don't see myself trading them anytime soon.)

Lauren got a lovely "Pretty Kitty" calandar. (let's just say she didn't harvest the same enthusiasm as I had toward the trading cards...mostly because the cats in it looked like demons...)

Merry Christmas!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://megandlo.blogspot.com/2008/12/christmas-time-is-here-well-sort-of.html' title='Christmas Time Is Here. In keeping with tradition, the evening included watching "Seinfeld" episodes, reading entertainment magazines, and playing Balderdash.

A few of the more laughable quotes from the day:

Me: "Brooklyn, are those your real eyelashes?"
Brooklyn: "Yep, It's all in the mascara."
Me: "What are you using?"
Uncle Steve: "Tar."

"Food that's not translucent freaks me out." - Megan, in response to creamy Jell-o.

"Oh, that Joe's in trouble. Yes, we even managed to read the romance novel saga penned by Stephenie Meyer (about a pair of teenage lovers, Bella and Edward, who is a vampire) upon which the movie is based in preparation. And that is a task--albeit a fascinating and entertaining one--but a task nonetheless. And it was worth it, and would have been even if the new Harry Potter trailer didn't play before the movie. I know I've basically just outed myself as a super nerd, but before you hate, hear me out.

Meyer's writing, which seems to adhere to a tell-not-show rule, is tedious and excessively wordy. Aly (roommate, best friend, Disney princess) pointed out that she spends no fewer than 50 pages describing Bella's curiosity and confusion when Edward is missing from school for two days. While the film only makes a brief moment of this occurrence, but it still inherits Meyer's biggest problem: Bella and Edward's obsessive love is unmotivated.

While I was hoping that the movie might incorporate some meaningful dialog between the two before Bella declares "I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him," the ridiculousness of the premise is what makes the reading and watching of "Twilight" so hilarious. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are an attractive pair, but I got the impression that despite all the over-acting, they were still taking the project seriously. This unconditional and irrevocable love is expressed only through Bella's thoughts and gestures like Edward's frequent stroking of her cheek. When this magic gesture played out onscreen tonight, Ashley (roomie), Aly, and I could not repress the impulse to laugh or the impulse to stroke one another's cheeks.

Also a fantastic aspect of the film was that there was no shortage of smoldering.* This isn't a production still, but it might as well be. They all looked exactly like that. Check it:

Ashley pointed out afterward that Edward's smolder (foreground) resembles David Blaine's street magic face. That's nothing compared to Jasper, though. He literally went the whole movie (okay, so maybe he opened and closed his mouth sometimes) with this expression...

... thus making himself my favorite character. I laughed every time he entered the frame.

Other great moments included Edward smelling smelling Bella's intoxicating scent for the first time and appearing as though he might vomit, Edward and Bella staring at each other wordlessly in a meadow for a solid two minutes, and this ridiculousness...

No, that's not Yoda. That would be Bella riding on Edward's back as he runs with super speed through the forests of Forks, Washington. I know, she looks like Yoda.

The roommates and I hope to soon reinact some of these gems of scenes and post video for the enjoyment of those of you who prefer not to spend the movie fare. Even so, I would still have to recommend that you do. It may the best unintentional comedy I've seen.

*One of the most frequently used words in the Twilight book series, along with "perfect," "beautiful," and variations of "dazzle."

The Office.

Dwight Schrute: What is my perfect crime? I break into Tiffany's at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No. I go for the chandelier; it's priceless. As I'm taking it down, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's business. She's Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night. In the morning the cops and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I love the cold. Thirty years later I get a postcard. I have a son. And he's the Chief of Police. This is where the story gets interesting: I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. She's been waiting for me all these years. She's never taken another lover. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin. Friday's. Marcus and Aly smugly bought each other super fruity drinks and the rest of us just ate food.

Afterwards, we got into Halloween garb and went to the Witches and Warlocks Ball at the film school. With a last-minute change, I decided to go as Carmen Sandiego, a character that everyone knows but no one recognizes. I couldn't have possibly competed with the Christian Siriano costume(Marcus) anyway. Ginny Weasley (Meg) was pretty amazing as well.

Needless to say, we tore it up on the dance floor. She enjoys simple things in life like grammar, boots (or shoes that make noise), and reading. She is jealous of her younger sister's jedi skills and wishes she could be a jedi herself. Her lack of force power is made up for by her genius writing abilities. She loves dresses and scarfs and Clinton, Stacy, and Tim Gunn are a few of her heroes. She's the Man, The Office, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, are commonly quoted throughout the apartment. She hates nature. She is witty and amazing. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262737320441853074" style="FLOAT: right; She is a ginger kid. She believes herself to be a jedi, and holds this title over her older sister, along with her math skills and ability to do things like open jars. You will often find her wearing stripes, or some creative combination of mismatched patterns and colors, and her fingernails are always either dark purple or something bright. She spends way too much time watching t.v., even embarrassing shows like "Dancing With the Stars." Her 16th birthday party was that of a 7-year-old boy, complete with Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and Star Wars decorations. She likes Star Wars a lot. She has watched all the episodes consecutively on two separate occasions. She has many shoes. Her laugh sounds a little like a goose. She's awesome.
